Brothers, Francisco Luis Cortes and Quintil (Shorty) Cortes joined Innovative Roofing Group 10 and 8 years ago, respectively. Luis currently works as a Sheet Metal Mechanic and Shorty as a Roofer on a Production Crew. It’s team members like them – skilled, reliable, hard-working – that make Innovative Roofing Group the company it is. We asked the Cortes brothers a few questions to allow our customers to get to know them. And, through them, Innovative Roofing Group, a little better.
How did you get into the Roofing industry?
Shorty: Luis and I both got into roofing about 20 years ago having been introduced to the business by a friend. We both started as laborers on a production crew. Back then we were mostly installing hot asphalt systems. Over the years we learned how to install most all types of roof systems.
Describe your role at Innovative Roofing Group?
Luis: When I joined IRG in 2010, I went to work as a Roofer on a Production Crew. I always had an interest in Sheet Metal fabrication and installation and moved to our Sheet Metal Division in 2017.
Shorty: I joined IRG a few years after Luis, on his recommendation. I joined a Production Crew but soon after moved to the Service Department where I worked as a helper on a two-man crew. Back in 2019, I moved back to Production as a Roofer.
What do you like most about your job?
Shorty: I like working outside and seeing the transformation of a rooftop based on our workmanship.
Luis: I like the variety of my current role as a Sheet Metal Mechanic. Every day we confront fabrication or installation challenges that require our creativity. I also like how our sheet metal workmanship can enhance a building’s appearance from the ground.
What is your favorite memory of working at Innovative Roofing Group?
Luis: My favorite memory of work at IRG is the day my older brother Quintil started.
Tell us about your family?
We are originally from Oaxaca, Mexico where we still have lots of family including three sisters and a brother.
What do you like to do in your spare time or on your days off?
Luis: When I am off work I try to spend as much time as I can with my beautiful daughter Arlet, who is 15 years old.
Shorty: In my spare time I like to listen to music and drink beer!
